I am so beyond exhausted this morning. Yesterday was just the longest day of work ever. I am an accountant and it is tax season. You would not even believe how busy this time of year is for me. I love my job and what I do but this time of year is definitely tough. I am so busy that I work almost every day of the week for two months straight. My wife misses me and my kids do too. It’s like I am too busy to hang out with them and spend any time together. They completely understand but I still feel guilty about it sometimes. When I got home from work last night it was past 10. I ate a quick dinner, showered and went to sleep. I was so tired. Around 2 in the morning, my wife woke me up in a panic. She said there had been a huge leak in the bathroom. I woke up to go check the damage. There was a leak coming from the drain pipe under our sink. I had no idea how that had happened. We needed to call a plumber to help us. Thankfully, we knew of an emergency plumber who was available whenever they were needed. We called him up and he came over to repair the leak coming from the pipe. It took him hours to figure it out. He was at our home until almost 5 a.m. By that time I had to get ready to go to work. I only got a few hours of sleep last night all because of a plumbing issue. I’m miserable today.
I recently had a lot of people over for my husband’s fiftieth birthday. We host a lot of parties because our house is very spacious for them. His birthday party was a hit, he had no idea. All of his friends were there and all of his friends who he hasn’t seen in many years. We all had such a blast but there was a lot of cleaning up that needed to be done. The next day I woke up, walked out of my bedroom and saw dishes full of food still on the counter, glasses and beer bottles everywhere. My yard was even covered in trash as well. I decided to clean up right away before I got any breakfast. I wanted to clean up the mess before my husband woke up and so I didn’t have to spend the whole day cleaning. While I was doing the dishes I heard a weird sound. I thought it was my husband who woke up and started the shower. However the noise was coming from below the kitchen sink. The pipes were spraying out water! I’m not sure what happened to the pipes and I was going to get my husband to fix it but he was too hungover so I called my local plumber who is very reputable around my area. He was over in about twenty minutes. There was water everywhere and all he did was tighten up and replace one of the pipes under my kitchen sink. It seemed to be an easy fix but the service charge was pretty pricey.
I have been on the road for work quite often lately. I am working extremely long hours. I am usually forced to find a place to eat dinner while I’m traveling. Because I’m constantly driving the thruway, I frequently get stuck eating at generic truck stops. I am a vegetarian, and trying to find something I can eat, is nearly impossible. The other problem is the temperature control in these little diners. I try to remember to pack a coat in the car. Whether it’s the middle of the winter or the heat of the summer, truck stop diners are usually freezing cold. Not long ago, I was running really late for dinner. I didn’t have a lot of options for open restaurants. I chose a random truck stop, bundled up in my coat, and headed inside. The place was so cold, that even wearing my coat was not enough. The air conditioner was blasting like crazy. I am not sure if the manager of the restaurant was trying to show off the power of his cooling system, or if the heating system was broken. Maybe his coolers weren’t working, and he was keeping the ice cream from melting. I had to use a bunch of napkins and try to fashion a blanket out of them. I ordered hot coffee and hot food. The food was quick and cheap, but it was terrible. It was cold before I could finish eating it. I now pack food in my car, so that I don’t need to stop at these places. I would rather eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in my car, and be able to decide a comfortable temperature.
My husband and I have probably lived in over a dozen separate houses. We buy a house for a low price, fix it up nice, and sell it at a profit. It has become an enjoyable hobby. I love the fact that we get to try out new homes, new locations, and meet new people. Over the years, we’ve learned what to look for in the homes we invest in. We try to stick to projects we can handle on our own. If there is a problem with the wiring, plumbing, or HVAC system, the job becomes expensive and complicated. We are then required to hire licensed professionals to do the work. The electricity, plumbing, heating, and cooling are not only necessities, but can present a safety issue. They also greatly affect the budget. If you’ve got a leaky pipe, it could do a great deal of property damage and cost a fortune in wasted water. If you’ve got leaking ductwork, it allows heated or cooled air to escape, and causes super high monthly energy bills. If the air conditioner is more than ten years old, it’s probably inefficient, unreliable, and clogged with mold and mildew. If the furnace is over fifteen years old, it could malfunction at any time. We try to stay away from homes with outdated HVAC equipment, corroded water pipes, and old wiring. We check to see how many electrical outlets are in each room. We inspect the water heater, drains, and sewer system. We check to see if there is a record of seasonal maintenance on the HVAC equipment, and if the service plan is transferable.
I hate when my house is clustered. I hate when I come home and there is stuff everywhere. This would be due to my roommate. She is always leaving things everywhere. I love to have a spot for everything. The only thing I feel that does not have a spot in my house is the humidifier. The humidifier was used during the winter. I was having bad dry skin problems. The humidifier wa helping to solve those problems. It did this by putting moisture back into the air. We located it in the living room because that is where I tended to spend the most time. Well, I didn’t mind that it was there for awhile. I did though start to care. It was kind of in the way. It felt like it was kind of chunky. It also made some noise. It w not really ideal to have in the living room. This is where I wanted it though. I was happy when spring came. The weather became much nicer. By nice I mean much warmer. The warmer weather makes my skin far less dry as in the winter. This is because as it gets warmer I do not need the furnace running in my house. The furnace is really what dried out the air. I finally got to turn it off and put it away. I put it somewhere where I would not have to look at any more until next winter. It was nice to have one less piece of furniture you could say in the living room. It was a big help to my skin but now that winter is over, I do not need it.
I live in an area that gets severe weather and major storms. We endure subzero temperatures and feet of snow in the winter, and we often get blizzards that last for days at a time. Throughout the rest of the year, we get major thunderstorms with very high winds. Because of this, we often endure power failures. We can be left without electric anywhere from a few minutes to an entire week. It is easy to take electricity for granted until you don’t have it. When there is a power outage, we have no lights, no running water, and no temperature control. In the winter, it can be downright dangerous to go without heat. In the summer, everything in the refrigerator and freezer can spoil. We also deal with flooding in the basement, because the sump pump doesn’t function without electricity. The disruption and damage of a power outage is both costly and aggravating. If left without power for any length of time, we are forced t move into a hotel. I finally decided to have a backup generator installed at my house. When the power fails, the generator automatically takes over. It is operational within seconds, and it powers the entire house until electricity is restored. The backup generator runs on natural gas, so I never need to worry about it running out of fuel. Because it monitors the power to the house and automatically assumes control when needed, I am not required to be on the premises to operate it. While the cost of a backup generator was significant, it has been such a wonderful convenience.
When I was sixteen, I decided I wanted to earn some money and save up to buy a car. I looked for a job that I could do throughout the summer, while I was off from school. I eventually got hired by a contractor who spent the whole summer installing and repairing roofs. It didn’t sound like a real tough job, since we only worked in the nice weather. If it rained, I got the day off. I liked the idea of being outside on the job and getting a tan. I quickly learned that working on a black roof on a hot and humid day is completely awful. Since I knew nothing about roofing, my job was just to carry the heavy shingles. At the start of the job, the professional would get up on the roof and tear off the old shingles. They would toss the shingles onto the ground, and I was required to pick them all up and load them into the back of the truck. I would then need to haul the fresh shingles up the ladder to the roof. It took me a while to learn how to manage to climb a ladder while carrying super heavy shingles. I had to use one hand to hold on to the ladder, and the other hand to balance the shingles on my shoulder. It was extremely tiring work, especially in the heat of the day. Sweat would pour off of me in buckets, and there was no time to take a break and get a cool drink. I woke up every morning and hoped for rain.
I graduated college back in December. After three years of tough classes and even tougher professors, I graduated early with two majors! I graduated with a degree in political science and yet another degree in legal studies, with my paralegal certificate. Which, in easier terms means that I am an officially licensed paralegal. So with those degrees I applied to law school for the following fall. I knew I wanted to do something in the meantime that I enjoyed. So, for work, I got a position as an assistant teacher at a daycare center about twenty minutes from my house. The job is great, but the kids are even better. They make you really push yourself to be the best teacher that you could possibly be. But knowing that I get to come to work everyday and be comfortable is even more important to me. I get hot very easily. The kids here really keep me busy, whether it is moving around during centers or playing outside. So I get hot in a matter of minutes. Luckily the building that the daycare center is inside of has an amazing air conditioning system. The air flows from the vents and just cools the entire room down within minutes. So, it is nice knowing that even when I am sweating from playing outside with the kids, I can come back inside to a nice cold room, and sit under the air conditioning vents and not worry about being super hot like I usually do. The air conditioning system here is a life saver.
There are some things in life that some people will not have. I will not have a father figure in my life. Many people do have a father in their life. Some people do not have an HVAC system either. There are people who do not have HVAC systems in their house. I feel bad for these people because they are really missing out on something great. This is just as I am missing out on something great like having a father. An HVAC system does many things for the home and for you as a person. An HVAC system can keep your house feeling young and fresh. The air being put into it is always clean and temperature controlled. If you have one of the inside of your homes you may feel that the comfort level you feel in your home goes up increasingly. You’ll always feel at the right temperature. It helps to get away from the unpleasant temperatures outside. If you have ever even considered getting an HVAC system you should contact an HVAC business. They can show you all the pieces of equipment that they offer with prices. They can give you all the information about having one and maintaining one. Even if you have never wanted one, looking into one would help you tremendously. Having an HVAC system for your home is a type of comfort that is worth the price you pay. Don’t be afraid of the price. Call an HVAC business today to help you find the right system for you and your home.
I am usually a fairly organized individual. I like knowing that things are in good working order. If things get out of hand or become too messy, it makes me feel stressed out and I go into a panic mode. My family knows that I am like this. Therefore, my kids strive to keep things nice and tidy, although they are still rather young so I do not expect too much out of them. All in all, though, our house is well maintained. A big part of a house involves the heating and cooling equipment. Without it, the home would not be a comfortable place to live and sleep. While nobody in this house can fix a broken furnace or tinker with a malfunctioning air conditioner, there are still some smaller things that we can do on our own. For example, replacing the air filters in the system every so often is a nice way to keep the home feeling fresh and the equipment running smoothly. While I am usually pretty darn good about swapping out the filters for new ones, I forgot about it for a little while. To make a long story short, the air conditioner shut down on us and actually froze into an ice block. It was extremely unsettling. I could not believe that I had been so forgetful. My negligence led to an annoying repair. Luckily, everything turned out to be okay and we went on with our lives. I will never forget to replace the air filters again, that much is for sure.
